[10/29/09] Weekly Column: Remembering & Honoring the Contributions of Our Veterans

On November 11th, our country will celebrate the annual Veterans Day holiday – the most opportune time to honor the great contributions of both our past and present servicemen and women. This is truly a time of celebration when the freedoms we enjoy as individuals are to be appreciated and a time of reflection when we should show gratitude to those in our communities whose bravery and dedication have made and continue to make our nation great.

Jeff Piccola (R-15) joined the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition in urging taxpayers to donate all or a portion of their tax refund to breast cancer and cervical cancer research. When you file your state tax return, citizens are encouraged to check off line 35 of the PA tax form 40 to donate. Allan Lipton, a researcher at the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, was chosen as one of the recipients of a research grant made possible by the check-off program.
